"He was wrong in many of his statements. I'd expect better fact checking from Neil deGrasse Tyson. Once example was his parsec comment. The "12 parsecs" comment obviously implies that he managed to find a smuggle route as short as possible, yet he interpreted it as if they meant parsecs as a measurement of time.
BB-8? Sure, but we don't know the exact mechanics of it, we know nothing of the technology. Perhaps there's something increasing friction inside we have no idea about. To figure out how, we have to speculate about what makes the things we see or hear in the movie work/true, not just say "that wouldn't work with today's science" or falsely assume they don't know what they're talking about.
There was no claim in the movie that a star could only destroy a couple of planets. That's the energy they were able to harvest though.
Kardashev scale, I'm 100% sure he's heard of it. They're obviously a
#2 at least. Able to fully harness the energy from the sun. They're probably even 2.1-2.2 at least since they can harness it in the way they do, not just the radiating energy from it.
"They can't do that" isn't a very intelligent response to a civilization above 2 on the Kardashev scale. We know nothing of what they can or can not do."
